Clarke

Robert Clarke invented the tin whistle in 1843 upon learning of the invention of tin plate. Together with the help of a blacksmith her copied his wooden whistle using tin plate.

He created a wooden fipple with a stay from his wife's corset and a file.

This new instrument played so well and very quickly grew in popularity in many villages and upon meeting some Irish labourers he sold them some tin whisltes and once they went back to Ireland they quickly became an Irish folk favourite!
